Overview: Formby Ladies is a compact, testing links-heathland course within the pine, dune and heather landscape of England’s Golf Coast. The holes weave through the central area of the wider Formby property, where trees frame the sandy fairways and the ground encourages creative positioning. At 5,356 yards and par 71 from the red markers, the course rewards accuracy, imagination and a confident short game more than raw distance.
History: Women had played over the Formby links since the nineteenth century, but the independent Formby Ladies Golf Club was born on New Year’s Day 1896 after the men’s club planned alterations. The ladies initially had a nine-hole course. The club’s official history records the 18-hole links opening on 1 July 1908, while Top100GolfCourses credits the extension work to Douglas McEwan and notes that the original architect is not certain.
Did You Know? Formby Ladies is distinctive for its independent ladies-only identity within England’s Golf Coast. The course has shared major-event hosting with Formby Golf Club, including the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship in 2021 and 2022.
