The course was built on the site of a historic estate that dates back to the 13th century, and the club has a long-standing reputation for its hospitality and its commitment to excellence. During the construction of the course, Hills and Forrest famously preserved as much of the natural landscape as possible, including several ancient mountain streams and historic landmarks.
