Overview: At Forest City, the Classic Course offers 18 holes of par-72 resort golf in Gelang Patah, Johor, close to the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link. Liang Guokun shaped the course across approximately 69 hectares of former marshland, using linked lakes, fairway mounds and a three-dimensional garden concept to give a flat site visual movement. The official scorecard figure is 7,138 yards. Compared with the companion Legacy Course, the Classic is the more tightly framed test: narrower fairways, sharply defined bunkers, water and sloping ground make accuracy important from the first shot.
History: The Classic was launched in August 2019 as the second 18-hole course at Forest City Golf Resort, expanding the resort’s golf inventory to 36 holes. It was developed as part of the wider Forest City project and was presented as a golf-tourism asset for Johor. The course’s identity is kept separate from the Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II-designed Legacy Course beside it. Current resort pages continue to list both courses and publish a booking contact, supporting the Classic as an operating visitor destination.
Did You Know? Forest City’s official material says the Classic Course was listed among Asia’s Top 100 Golf Courses for four consecutive years from 2020 through 2023. The course also has an exact designer story: Liang Guokun is not just associated with the surrounding landscape, but is credited by the course’s own introduction with the Classic design. The use of Paspalum Platinum turf and the large linked lakes are part of the resort’s attempt to turn reclaimed, flat ground into a visibly sculpted golf landscape.
