Overview: Flossmoor Golf Club is a Herbert J. Tweedie design in the southern Chicago suburbs, laid across a historic site with mature trees, subtle movement and strategically shaped greens. The private 18-hole course plays to par 72 and reaches 7,136 yards from the black tees. Its classic challenge is created by thoughtful bunkering, narrow decisions around the greens and the way the routing uses a relatively compact property. The course is not dependent on dramatic elevation; its interest comes from the precision of the original plan and from how the land changes from hole to hole.
History: The club was founded in 1899 as Homewood Country Club and later took the Flossmoor name. Herbert J. Tweedie designed the original course, which became an important early example of Midwestern golf architecture. Raymond Hearn led a 2009 renovation informed by historical documents, restoring elements of the original routing and character. Flossmoor also hosted the 1920 PGA Championship and the 1923 U.S. Amateur, placing the club in the early national history of American golf.
Did You Know? Bobby Jones held Flossmoor's course record for decades. The record became part of the club's local mythology because Jones achieved it on a course that had already established a national reputation for demanding classic golf.
