Overview: Flagstaff Ranch Golf Club is a Jerry Pate design set among the Ponderosa pines of northern Arizona, where the elevation and mountain light create a very different golf environment from the desert courses farther south. The course measures 7,160 yards at par 71 and uses generous fairways, sculpted bunkers and large rolling putting surfaces to move through the forest. Views toward the San Francisco Peaks appear from elevated points, while the dense trees and changing ground keep the round focused on line, balance and distance control.
History: Flagstaff Ranch was founded in 2003 as a private mountain golf community, with Jerry Pate responsible for the course design. The club was built around the idea that high-elevation golf could combine championship length with a more relaxed forest setting, and its surrounding community was planned around the same landscape. The course remains associated with the Ponderosa forest, nearby Dry Lake Caldera and the cooler summer conditions that distinguish Flagstaff from the Phoenix region.
Did You Know? The property sits at at an elevation above 7,000 ft, making the course's yardage play differently from its number on the card. The opening hole drops downhill and frames the San Francisco Peaks to the north, giving the round an immediate sense of the high-country setting.
