Overview: Fjällbacka is a west-coast course where coastal ground, open rock and low woodland create a distinctive Swedish seaside setting. The 18 holes are compact and varied rather than built around sheer length, with the landscape continually changing the sightline into the green. Water is in play on a number of holes, while the mixture of parkland and exposed coastal ground makes wind direction an important part of club selection. The course is a good example of how a relatively intimate site can produce a demanding par-71 round.
History: Fjällbacka Golfklubb was founded in 1965. The first nine holes were built in the late 1960s, and the full 18-hole course was completed in 1973. The club’s history identifies Erik Röhss as architect and records Paul Pennink’s consultation on the final holes, preserving the collaborative story behind the finished routing.
Did You Know? Fjällbacka combines a park course with a seaside course in its own historical description. That unusual two-part identity is visible in the round, where sheltered green corridors give way to wider views and more exposed coastal shots.
