Overview: Fazenda da Grama Country & Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course in Itupeva, within a private residential estate about an hour from São Paulo. Brian Costello of JMP Golf Design Group used the site’s rolling ground to create a substantial par-72 layout with generous initial corridors and increasingly demanding water decisions. The seventh, eighth and twelfth holes are specifically noted for bringing water into play, while the broader course combines changing elevation, tree-lined stretches and modern championship-scale landing areas.
History: The course opened for play in early 2006 as the centrepiece of the Fazenda da Grama community. Its early years exposed the maintenance demands of a wet Brazilian climate, and a bunker restoration programme in 2010 addressed contamination, washouts and drainage. In 2022 the club modernised all 18 playing greens and its two practice greens, preserving the original shapes while installing TifEagle surfaces. The sequence shows a course being refined rather than replaced.
Did You Know? The 2022 green project covered 20 greens in total, the 18 on the course plus two practice greens. The club used three-dimensional moulds to retain Brian Costello’s original contours, so the surface upgrade was designed to protect the visual and strategic identity of the greens rather than flatten or redraw them.
