Overview: Farmington Country Club's South/North routing is the 18-hole Main Course in Charlottesville, laid across the historic Farmington estate at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Fred Findlay's design uses rolling Piedmont ground, mature trees and open views to create a traditional parkland course with a calm but demanding rhythm. The par-70 layout asks for careful placement into changing lies, while the greens and surrounding slopes reward players who understand how the land moves. It is a course where the setting and the architecture are closely connected.
History: Farmington's golf project began in 1927 as the club and grounds were being developed. The club and grounds were formally established after that initial project began. Findlay prepared the original Main Course across the historic estate, whose house includes an addition planned by Thomas Jefferson in 1803. The course has since evolved through stewardship and renovation, but the South and North nines remain the central 18-hole routing and retain Findlay's Piedmont character.
Did You Know? Farmington has 28 holes in total, with the South and North nines forming the Main Course and a separate ten-hole East Course completing the property. That unusual arrangement means the ranked South/North label refers to a specific 18-hole combination, not to the club's entire golf inventory.
