Overview: Farmington Country Club's East Course is a 10-hole short course in Charlottesville, built across the same historic estate as the club's Main Course but with a very different scale and purpose. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw's renovation uses only 2,206 yards from the back tees and plays to par 35, with six one-shot holes mixed into a compact, strategic routing. The course is shaped around the site's slopes, trees and natural ground rather than around championship length. Its small footprint makes angles, recovery options and the quality of the next shot more important than raw power.
History: The East Course evolved from Farmington's earlier short-course land and was renovated by Coore & Crenshaw, with play on the current 10-hole routing beginning in 2017. It is distinct from the Fred Findlay Main Course and from the later Dave Axland and Rodney Cole work associated with Farmington's broader golf planning. Keeping the East Course's 10-hole identity is essential: it is a deliberate short layout, not an abbreviated name for an 18-hole course.
Did You Know? Six of the East Course's ten holes are par threes. That proportion gives the course a compact, almost laboratory-like quality, allowing the routing to explore different green settings and short-game decisions within a single walk across the Farmington property.
