Overview: Outeniqua is the parkland course at Fancourt in George, Western Cape, designed by Gary Player beneath the mountains that give the course its name. This par-72 course moves through 18 holes of through rolling fairways, tree-lined corridors, changing terrain and strategically placed bunkers, offering a more sheltered contrast to Fancourt's engineered Links. It is intended to be approachable without becoming passive: the holes alternate between forgiving-looking ground and approaches that demand a precise line. The surrounding Outeniqua Mountains provide a constant frame for the round.
History: Fancourt's official history records the current Outeniqua course opening on 27 March 1997, when nine holes were added to the existing 27-hole Montagu complex and the estate gained two full 18-hole parkland courses. Gary Player's design uses the Garden Route setting and the existing estate landscape to create a relaxed but strategic routing. The course's history is therefore linked to Fancourt's expansion in the 1990s, rather than to the later opening of The Links.
Did You Know? Outeniqua is named after the mountain range that rises behind Fancourt. The name is more than a scenic label: the mountains shape the horizon on many holes and help distinguish the parkland course from the estate's dune-built Links.
