Overview: The Links at Fancourt is a Gary Player design in George, Western Cape, built across a former airfield beneath the Outeniqua Mountains. The flat starting ground was reshaped into a broad links landscape of dunes, swales, pot bunkers and firm-looking running corridors. At par 73 and 7,579 yards, the routing asks players to manage wind, ground movement and changing lines into greens rather than relying only on aerial approaches. The mountain backdrop is memorable, but the course's identity comes from the deliberately constructed links terrain and the way the holes move through it.
History: The Links opened in November 2000 as the flagship course of the Fancourt estate. Fancourt's history records the course as a major expansion of the resort's golf offering, following the earlier Montagu and Outeniqua layouts. The course hosted the 2003 Presidents Cup, the only edition of that event to finish in a tie, and has remained the estate's most prominent championship routing. Gary Player has described the design as his greatest achievement as a course designer.
Did You Know? The Links replaced the visual language of an old airfield with a man-made dune landscape. Large earthworks created the rises, hollows and sandy-looking hazards that now make the course read like a links course despite its inland Garden Route setting.
