Overview: Located on the island of Fanø off the west coast of Denmark, Fanø Golf Links is an authentic, historic 18-hole links course originally laid out by Robert Dunlop. Set on a rugged, sandy landscape immediately adjacent to the North Sea, the layout features narrow fairways winding through towering, marram-grass-covered dunes. The course is highly exposed to fierce coastal gales, demanding low ball flights, creative ground-game shots, and immense patience on the small, firm greens.
History: Founded in 1898 and officially opened for championship play in 1901, Fanø is the oldest golf course in Denmark and a historic pioneer in Scandinavian golf. The course has remained virtually unchanged for over a century, offering a pure, raw, and traditional Scottish-style links experience that honors the original spirit of the game.
Did You Know? The course features no artificial sand bunkers. Instead, the entire layout is routed through natural, sand-faced blowout dunes that serve as spectacular and formidable hazards, requiring players to hit out of native, unraked sand if they miss the fairways.
