Overview: Faithlegg House Hotel and Golf Club delivers an 18-hole championship parkland course on a 200-acre estate beside the River Suir in County Waterford. The current course page gives a championship length of 6,674 yards and credits Irish architect Paddy Merrigan. Rolling ground, mature woodland, undulating greens, water hazards and carefully placed sand create the principal challenges. The restored eighteenth-century Faithlegg House forms the resort centrepiece, so the golf course is part of a historic estate rather than an isolated modern development.
History: The course opened in May 1993 and was designed by Paddy Merrigan, who worked with Eddie Hackett at Waterville before developing his own architecture practice. Faithlegg hosted the Ladies Irish Open in 2000 and 2001 and the PGA EuroPro Tour from 2007 to 2009. The hotel and golf resort developed around the course, but the estate’s history is older: the house and land passed through the Aylward, Bolton, Power and De La Salle eras before becoming a hotel setting.
Did You Know? The finishing sequence is singled out in the course material: a short par three is followed by two stout par fours. That closing stretch demonstrates Merrigan’s stated design signature of undulating greens, water and strategically placed hazards. The historic house is visible after the round, but the final holes provide Faithlegg’s most concentrated golfing statement.
