Overview: The Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club is the "Grand Dame" of Middle Eastern golf and the first grass course ever built in the region. Designed by Karl Litten and inaugurated in 1988, it remains the standard by which all other desert courses are measured. The layout meanders through a natural desert landscape of dunes and native flora, defended by seven salt and freshwater lakes. As the long-time host of the Dubai Desert Classic, the Majlis has seen every legend of the modern game walk its fairways, providing a historic and high-stakes environment that is central to the identity of golf in the UAE.
History: The course's opening marked a pivotal moment in Dubai's transition into a global golf destination, proving that high-quality championship golf could thrive in a desert environment. In recent years, the course has undergone significant modernization to enhance its strategic depth and maintenance standards while preserving Litten's original routing. Since its inception, it has drawn praise from the world's best professionals for its pure design and its role as a vital cultural hub for the city's sporting and social life.
Did You Know? The iconic clubhouse is designed in the shape of three traditional Bedouin tents, representing one of the most recognizable silhouettes in global sport. The course's name, 'Majlis', comes from the Arabic word for a place of meeting, and the signature 8th hole is famously known for its blind tee shot over a desert ridge toward a view that perfectly frames the modern Dubai skyline.
