Overview: Carrara’s Emerald Lakes presents 18 holes at par 72 in the Gold Coast suburb of Carrara. The layout uses lakes, broad fairways and shaped green approaches to create a resort-style round that remains playable for a wide range of golfers. Graham Marsh’s design is comfortable in the Gold Coast landscape: water is visible throughout the property, but the main challenge is deciding when to take on a hazard and when to use the wider side of a fairway. Its location makes Emerald Lakes a natural choice for golfers staying between Surfers Paradise and the hinterland.
History: Emerald Lakes belongs to the period when the Gold Coast was developing a concentration of destination golf facilities. Graham Marsh designed the current championship course as part of the Carrara growth area, where residential and leisure uses were planned together. The course’s identity has remained tied to that setting, with the lakes and open fairways giving the club a recognizable contrast to the denser coastal suburbs.
Did You Know? On a Gold Coast golf map, Emerald Lakes sits close to several well-known resort courses, yet its visual language is unusually direct: lakes and fairways do most of the work. The official course overview highlights wide playing corridors and water as defining features, which is why club selection around the greens can matter as much as distance from the tee.
