Overview: Emerald Dunes Club in West Palm Beach is a private Tom Fazio course built around an unusual piece of Florida ground. The property’s former quarry left a large central mound, a loading ramp and exposed coral rock, and those remnants became part of the golf landscape instead of being erased. Water, elevation, rock and vegetation now give the parkland layout a stronger sense of movement than its coastal setting might suggest. The current scorecard lists 7,306 yards and par 72 from the black tees.
History: Fazio Design dates Emerald Dunes to 1990. The course was developed as an ambitious West Palm Beach golf project and used the former quarry as a central architectural opportunity. Earlier course listings described the property as a public daily-play facility, but current club and Golf Digest records identify Emerald Dunes as a private club. The change is important for a course profile because the present club identity and playing conditions are not the same as the older public-course description.
Did You Know? The quarry mound is more than a visual landmark: it is the course’s defining piece of recycled terrain. Rather than flattening an industrial remnant, Fazio used it to create elevation and changing views in a part of Florida where naturally high ground is scarce. Emerald Dunes is therefore an example of golf architecture turning a difficult site history into a strategic asset.
