Overview: Elverum Golfklubb plays at Starmoen in the forested Elverum area of Innlandet, eastern Norway. The 18-hole woodland course is listed at par 72 and 6,906 yards, equivalent to the club’s current 6,315-metre back-tee total. The club’s own hole data shows a full par-72 routing with two closing par fives: the 9th and 18th are each listed at 510 metres from the longest tee. Pine and spruce woodland, long par fives and water by the 18th green give the layout a clear Scandinavian identity. The course is described here without a named architect because the club’s published history and the principal ranking page do not attribute the design.
History: Construction at Starmoen started in autumn 1987, and the first nine holes were taken into use late in 1988. The clubhouse and nine-hole course officially opened in spring 1990; the 18-hole layout was completed and in use by September 1991. Hedmark Golfklubb had been formed in 1983 through a merger of Høsbjør Golfklubb and the former Elverum Golfklubb. After that organisation went bankrupt in 1993, Elverum Golfklubb was re-established and continued the golf operation at Starmoen. The course has been improved repeatedly: the club records a major change in 1996 and rebuilding of the driving range in 1997–98. Top100GolfCourses’ account confirms the same sequence, distinguishing the original nine-hole course from the 18-hole extension and the later change of club identity.
Did You Know? The club’s scorecard describes the 9th as a left dogleg and the 18th as a right dogleg, so the two nines finish in opposite directions even though both end with par fives. Elverum also publishes separate yardages for five tee sets and slope tables through 2033, showing how the same 18 holes are staged for different levels of play.
