Overview: El Valle is an 18-hole, par-71 course in the Murcia region, built through a natural desert valley rather than a heavily planted resort garden. Nicklaus Design keeps the holes visually open and uses native scrub, sculpted land, crowned greens and carefully positioned hazards to make precision more important than raw length. The fairways can appear generous from the tee, but the best route often depends on choosing a side that leaves a clean angle into a raised or contoured green. Two lakes and narrow water features add definition without dominating every hole. The result is a strategic desert course that feels spacious, quiet and closely connected to the dry landscape around it.
History: El Valle opened in 2007 as part of the Nicklaus Golf Trail in the Mar Menor area. The course was designed by Nicklaus Design and developed around the idea of preserving the character of the valley, with planting and shaping used to frame the existing terrain rather than conceal it. It later hosted the Spanish Professional Championship in 2009 and 2011 and became a venue for European Tour qualifying events. Those tournaments reflect the course's ability to challenge skilled players while remaining readable for everyday golfers.
Did You Know? The course's desert appearance is not created by filling the property with ornamental planting. The official description emphasizes native shrubs, mown chipping areas and the way the holes remain separate from much of the landscaping. That restrained approach is why the valley and its changing light remain such a strong part of the experience.
