Overview: El Camaleon Golf Course at Mayakoba is an 18-hole resort course on the Riviera Maya, designed by Greg Norman and routed through mangroves, lagoons and coastal views. The current operator presents it as a course where the natural environment remains part of the strategy rather than a backdrop behind a resort grid. Fairways and green complexes move between jungle, wetland and ocean-facing ground, giving the round a changing visual rhythm. Its strongest identity is the way tropical ecology and championship golf occupy the same route.
History: El Camaleón became the first course in Mexico to host a PGA Tour event, a distinction that established Mayakoba as an international golf destination. The course has since hosted professional events in more than one configuration, including the 2026 Riviera Maya Open on the LPGA Tour. Because tournament setups and everyday resort tees are not identical, this profile avoids assigning one par or yardage as if it covered every version of the course. The current Mayakoba operation remains active and bookable.
Did You Know? The name El Camaleón reflects the course’s ability to change character as it moves through different ecosystems. A golfer can leave a hole framed by mangrove and lagoons and later find a more open coastal view, with the ground and vegetation changing the sightline before the architecture does. That environmental variety is the memorable feature: the course feels like a connected journey through the Riviera Maya landscape.
