Overview: Designed by two-time Masters champion José María Olazábal, the Championship Course at Education City Golf Club is a cutting-edge 18-hole desert and wadi layout. Opened in 2019, the course is part of a larger 33-hole facility that includes a unique 6-hole championship loop and a 9-hole par-3 course. The main layout is characterized by its strategic use of wadi escarpments, drought-tolerant Paspalum turf, and expansive waste areas, providing a modern, sustainable, and highly technical championship environment that has quickly become a favorite on the European Tour.
History: The club was developed as part of the Qatar Foundation’s Education City, with a mandate to establish the region as a hub for both high-performance sport and community engagement. Olazábal and his design team focused on creating a layout that was accessible for all skill levels while providing a rigorous test for professionals, utilizing the natural desert topography to create a course that felt both grand and sustainable. Since its opening, it has hosted the Qatar Masters on multiple occasions, drawing praise for its innovative design and its world-class training facilities.
Did You Know? The club is home to the "Centre of Excellence," one of the most advanced golf learning facilities in the world, featuring TrackMan-powered studios and a putting lab. In addition to its championship pedigree, the course was designed with a heavy emphasis on education, reflecting the mission of its host location by serving as a world-class laboratory for golf coaching and sports science.
