Overview: Edgewood Golf Course is a public 18-hole parkland course in north Fargo, positioned along the Red River. Its tree-lined fairways, bentgrass greens, mature vegetation and river views give it a settled character that is unusual for a course within a growing city. The layout plays to par 71 and about 6,506 yards from the longest published set. Tighter corridors, sloped greens and strategically placed bunkers reward accuracy more than simple power, while the open river edge creates a changing backdrop through the season. Edgewood remains a practical city course with enough design interest to challenge experienced players.
History: Fargo Parks records that Edgewood opened in 1926 as a five-hole course costing a quarter for three circuits. It later grew into the 18-hole public course known today, developing on land beside the Red River and becoming one of Fargo's most established golf facilities. Because the course occupies floodplain terrain, water management has been part of its story for decades. In 2010, three flood-prone holes were redesigned with raised tees, greens and fairways to protect key playing areas while retaining the river setting. The course has continued to evolve without losing its municipal roots.
Did You Know? Edgewood's early format was only five holes, yet golfers paid for three loops around them. That small beginning helps explain why the present 18-hole layout has such a long local history even though its shape and infrastructure have been updated several times.
