East Renfrewshire

Overview: East Renfrewshire is an upland Scottish course south-west of Glasgow, spread over rolling moorland with broad views across the surrounding countryside. James Braid’s routing works with the natural slopes, burns and open turf, producing a course that rewards a controlled shape and a clear plan for each hole. It is a classic inland test: not defined by one dramatic feature, but by the cumulative effect of elevation, wind and thoughtful green placement.

History: The club was founded in 1922 and the course has remained closely associated with James Braid. Subsequent changes have lengthened the layout and refined its playing surfaces, but the main routing still follows the character of the original design. The course is recognised by the James Braid Association and has developed a reputation as one of the strongest examples of upland golf around Glasgow.

Did You Know? The course stands roughly 500 feet above sea level despite being only a short drive from Glasgow. The short second hole is a strategic highlight: a burn runs along the hole and makes a seemingly simple par four much less forgiving than its length suggests.
