Overview: EagleSticks Golf Club is a public Michael Hurdzan design on 150 acres near Zanesville. The 18-hole course moves through oak, maple, ash, locust, walnut and cherry trees, with elevation changes on virtually every hole and a bunker scheme that keeps the approaches thoughtful. The official gold-tee figure is 6,508 yards at par 70, but the experience is shaped as much by the land as by the scorecard. Accuracy and the ability to play from uneven lies matter because the best angles are rarely found by simply hitting straight at the flag. Bentgrass fairways, undulating greens and multiple teeing areas give the course a broad range of playing lines.
History: EagleSticks opened in 1990 on the former McClelland homestead. Hurdzan's design retained the rolling character of the farmland and woodlands, making elevation part of the course's identity rather than an isolated feature. The property later developed into a wider golf and events destination, but the original course remains the centre of the operation. The club's current materials describe a layout with 90 bunkers and more than 100 feet of elevation change, details that explain why a 6,508-yard course can still demand careful planning on nearly every hole.
Did You Know? Five of EagleSticks' bridges incorporate timbers from a 100-foot corn crib that stood on the former McClelland farm. The bridge work connects the present course to the agricultural history of the property instead of treating the land as an anonymous development site.
