Overview: Dunstanburgh Castle is a traditional Northumberland links between Embleton Bay and the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. The course runs through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with coastal wind, firm turf and the castle providing a constant reference point for the routing.
History: The original course appeared in 1900 and was later redesigned by James Braid. The club has retained its coastal character, with the present course using the dunes and shoreline rather than imposing a heavily engineered landscape.
Did You Know? The castle beside the course was begun in the fourteenth century by Earl Thomas of Lancaster, and several holes are played close enough to the ruins for the medieval walls to become part of the golfer’s line of sight.
