Overview: Dukes is an inland course on the edge of St Andrews, set above the town with views across the surrounding landscape. Its heathland character comes through in the open, rolling ground, heather and changes of elevation, while the holes use the terrain to create a different experience from the famous links beside the sea. The course is recorded as par 72. Because current sources do not agree on one stable tee yardage or clearly identify a single architect for the stored routing, that field is left blank.
History: The course opened in 1995 on land connected with the wider St Andrews estate. Later work, including improvements associated with Tim Liddy after 2004, refined the presentation and playing strategy. That sequence is more reliable than assigning the whole layout to one name, so the profile keeps the opening year and later improvement record while avoiding an overconfident architect attribution. Dukes remains part of the St Andrews golf destination but is a separate inland course.
Did You Know? Dukes provides a panoramic counterpoint to the Old Course and the other links. From elevated parts of the property, golfers can look back towards St Andrews while playing through a more heathland-like landscape. The design also includes risk-and-reward choices that become more apparent when wind and firm ground affect the club selection into the greens.
