Overview: Duddingston is an Edinburgh parkland course set beneath Arthur’s Seat and within the historic landscape of the Duke of Abercorn’s former deer park. The Braid Burn meanders through the property and enters the play on many holes, while mature trees and sweeping fairways frame a course that feels remarkably tranquil for one so close to the city centre. The challenge comes from combining a good line with enough commitment to carry or avoid the burn.
History: Duddingston was established in 1895 and was originally designed by Willie Park Jr. James Braid later updated the course, adding to the architectural pedigree and helping shape the layout’s strategic character. The club has hosted Scottish professional and amateur events, including district championships and Scottish PGA competitions, without losing its accessible Edinburgh setting.
Did You Know? The Braid Burn is a constant companion rather than a single water hazard: the club says it comes into play on no fewer than 14 of the 18 holes. The course’s most recognisable backdrop is Arthur’s Seat, visible from many of the elevated and open sections.
