Overview: Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club is an 18-hole, par-71 championship course on the historic waterway that gave Dubai its early commercial identity. Karl Litten designed the layout with palm-lined fairways, sculpted water features and a series of holes that run close to the Creek. The current Dubai Golf listing gives the Championship Course a length of 7,009 yards. Its urban setting is central to the experience: the round moves between waterfront views, mature planting and the city's changing skyline, while the sail-shaped clubhouse and marina make the property instantly recognisable.
History: The project grew from an idea developed in the late 1980s to create a major golf and yacht destination beside Dubai Creek. Construction began in September 1990, and the club was unveiled on 28 January 1993. Litten designed the original 18-hole course, a par-3 course and the practice facilities, while architect Brian Johnson created the clubhouse in the form of a traditional lateen sail. Dubai Creek later hosted the Dubai Desert Classic in 1999 and 2000, and the course continues to be used for high-level professional events.
Did You Know? The sail-shaped clubhouse was so closely associated with the new Dubai that its design was featured on the UAE's 20-dirham banknote. The building and the course were conceived together as a statement on the Creek, so the clubhouse is not merely a landmark seen from the fairways. It is part of the architectural story of Dubai's transformation from a trading port into a global city.
