Overview: At 7,320 yards, the Olazabal Course is the longest of the Dongguan Mission Hills layouts and the facility's most overt tournament test. Jose Maria Olazabal's design combines undulating fairways, jungle-framed vistas, running streams and deep, sand-flashed bunkers. The official page records 151 bunkers, so the course asks for more than a powerful drive. Players must choose lines that leave a workable angle into greens whose contours can turn a marginal approach into a difficult recovery.
History: Olazabal was the Spanish player's first signature course and it became a major tournament venue. The routing hosted the Omega Mission Hills World Cup in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and Mission Hills continues to use it for important events. It sits at the centre of the Dongguan clubhouse complex, whose five layouts give the wider resort a distinct collection of designer-led courses.
Did You Know? The fifteenth hole has 24 bunkers, an extraordinary concentration on one hole and a fitting detail for a course associated with one of golf's great sand-game specialists. It explains why the course can be difficult even when the fairways are visible and why the correct angle into the green matters as much as raw distance.
