Overview: Diamante Cabo San Lucas ~ El Cardonal presents the El Cardonal layout in Mexico. Diamante Cabo San Lucas ~ El Cardonal is an inland desert course within Diamante, with broad landing areas, native dunes, arroyos and long views toward the Pacific and the Sierra de la Laguna mountains. The design leaves room for different ways around many holes, rewarding players who think about angles and landing zones instead of treating length as the only answer. The design credit at Diamante Cabo San Lucas ~ El Cardonal goes to Tiger Woods / TGR Design. Diamante Cabo San Lucas ~ El Cardonal is listed as a par-72 course at 7,363 yards; that is private and resort-linked, with the design story documented directly by Diamante and TGR Design.
History: El Cardonal officially opened in December 2014 as Tiger Woods’ first completed golf-course design. Woods drew on the strategic feel of older California courses while adapting the ideas to Diamante’s Baja setting, creating a layout that can challenge accomplished golfers without making every hole a forced carry for higher handicaps.
Did You Know? The name comes from the ranch that previously occupied the site. The 11th is a representative example of the design philosophy: a par 3 that accepts a running approach, showing how the course uses ground game options as well as aerial shots.
