Overview: Diablo Country Club is a historic and prestigious private enclave located in the shadow of Mt. Diablo. Originally designed as a nine-hole layout by the legendary Jack Neville in 1915 and expanded to a full 18-hole championship course by William Watson in 1920, the course is a model of "Golden Age" architecture. Characterized by its narrow, tree-lined fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and exceptionally small green complexes, the layout provides a nostalgic and technical round that rewards precision over raw power. The course underwent a masterful restoration by Todd Eckenrode in 2019, which returned the bunkers and green complexes to their historic character while modernization the infrastructure for the modern game.
Did You Know? Jack Neville, the course's primary architect, was also the designer of the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links; his work at Diablo reflects the same commitment to strategic depth and natural aesthetics that made his legacy a cornerstone of California golf history.
