Overview: Near downtown Las Vegas, Desert Pines Golf Club provides an 18-hole public course that combines a desert setting with a Carolina-inspired visual language. Perry Dye designed the par-71 layout at roughly 6,810 yards, using pine trees, shaped fairways, bunkers and water to create a more enclosed experience than the open target courses found farther from the city. The result is a playable but position-conscious round with a distinct sense of place.
History: Desert Pines opened in 1997 and quickly became known as a new public option close to central Las Vegas. Early Nevada golf listings described it as a Carolina-type course in the desert and credited Perry Dye with the design. Its proximity to downtown and the Strip gives the course an important role in destination golf, while its tree planting and routing keep the playing experience separate from the surrounding urban intensity.
Did You Know? Desert Pines was designed around a deliberate contrast. The course sits in the Mojave Desert, yet its visual references are the pine-framed, water-aware layouts of the American Southeast. That tension between climate and design tradition is the reason the course reads differently from a conventional Las Vegas desert layout.
