Overview: Deqing Moganshan Gowin Golf Club is an 18-hole mountain-resort course near Moganshan and Xiazhu Lake in Zhejiang. Rick Jacobson's design works through valleys and mountain foothills, with water features on 13 holes, bamboo groves, native sand bunkers and fairways that change elevation between tee and landing area. The championship layout measures over 7,100 yards and plays to par 72, but its interest is in how the terrain creates different options rather than length alone.
History: Construction began in 2009 and the American Society of Golf Course Architects reported completion in December 2011, with the course expected to open in spring 2012. The project was conceived as the centrepiece of an environmentally sensitive mixed-use resort. Jacobson's brief was to challenge strong players while remaining playable for members and visitors.
Did You Know? The eighteenth hole finishes beside an abandoned quarry, with a stream along the left side and a green set by a waterfall complex. The final hole does not hide the site's former industrial character, it turns the quarry into the backdrop for the closing approach.
