Overview: Denison Golf Club at Granville is a public Donald Ross course in the rolling, wooded hills of central Ohio. Its 18-hole layout uses elevated greens, natural slopes, and carefully placed bunkers to create a traditional Ross test that remains accessible to everyday players.
History: John Sutphin Jones commissioned Donald Ross to design the course alongside the Granville Inn. Ross designed the layout in 1924, and the course opened in 1925, using the hilly Granville terrain to express his preference for natural hazards and strategic green complexes.
Did You Know? Denison’s 63 bunkers are positioned as part of the natural landscape rather than as a separate decorative system. Ross’s design philosophy was to use existing landforms wherever possible, and the Granville hills provided exactly that opportunity.
