Overview: Inside Buffalo’s historic Olmsted park system, Delaware Park Golf Course is a public municipal 18-hole layout. The short par-68 layout measures 5,359 yards from the back tees and moves through the park’s meadow and wooded character rather than a private-club setting. Its broad, accessible scale makes it a practical city round, while the surrounding Olmsted landscape gives the course a sense of place that few municipal layouts can match.
History: Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed Delaware Park in the late nineteenth century, creating a 350-acre country park with a meadow, woods and a water feature. The golf course was built later, around 1930, and became part of Buffalo’s public recreation network. Today the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy helps maintain the park system and promotes the course alongside the city’s other Olmsted golf properties. The park is historically documented, but the golf architect is not reliably identified in the reviewed sources.
Did You Know? The course is laid out in the meadow portion of an Olmsted park that was designed to feel like a rural landscape inside the city. A round here therefore passes through both golf history and Buffalo landscape history.
