Overview: In Manhasset, Deepdale Golf Club has a tree-lined, tightly framed routing and undulating green complexes. Its present identity is associated with Dick Wilson, while the property also carries the architectural history of an earlier Macdonald and Raynor layout.
History: Deepdale was established by William K. Vanderbilt II in 1924 on the grounds of his Lake Success estate. Construction of the Long Island Expressway forced a major change to the property, after which Wilson created the course associated with the modern club.
Did You Know? Deepdale's history is a useful example of infrastructure reshaping golf architecture: a major road did not simply pass near the course, it required the club to abandon its original routing and build again.
