Overview: Deacon's Lodge at Breezy Point Resort is an 18-hole, par-72 parkland course in central Minnesota, designed by Arnold Palmer across roughly 500 acres of woodland, wetlands and lakes. The current official scorecard lists 6,943 yards from the Palmer tees. Broad bentgrass fairways, native transition areas and large sandy waste features give the course room to breathe, while the lake and wetland edges repeatedly influence the safest line into the greens. The layout is resort golf with real strategic choices, not simply a long drive through trees.
History: Construction began in 1997 and Deacon's Lodge opened in 1999. Contemporary reporting records a May 31 grand opening followed by full-time play from June 18, while the course was being completed under Palmer's golf-course consulting group. The course was named for Arnold Palmer's father, Deacon, and was later acquired by the Breezy Point resort operation in 2012. The official resort page continues to identify it as an Arnold Palmer Signature Course and preserves its connection to the Palmer Design Company.
Did You Know? The name is a direct family reference: Deacon was Arnold Palmer's father and served as a head golf professional and superintendent at Latrobe Country Club. The course also uses native sand waste areas as part of its playing strategy, so the sandy ground is not merely decorative landscaping. Several greens were built with wide bentgrass surrounds, a detail noted during the course's 1999 opening period.
