Overview: De Lochemse Golfclub sits in the Achterhoek landscape, where woodland, heather, open water and meadow-like clearings form the course’s natural rhythm. The 18 holes have a mature, park-like appearance and are framed by the surrounding greenery rather than isolated from it. Placement matters more than spectacle: a well-chosen line keeps the next shot open, while the changes between forest edge and open ground alter the visual and strategic demands. It is a quietly varied course with a strong sense of place.
History: The first ideas for a golf course here date to 1936, but the project was interrupted by the Second World War. The modern club was founded in 1987, the first nine holes were in play in August 1993, and the second nine followed in May 1995. Eschauzier & Thate designed the original 18-hole development. From 2012 to 2016, Michiel van der Vaart of Jol Golf Design guided fundamental changes while retaining the course’s wooded and heathland character.
Did You Know? The club’s present setting is more than a decorative backdrop. Its sustainability documentation describes a course enclosed by nature reserves, with open woodland, heather, juniper, gorse and water-edge vegetation all managed as part of the same ecological system. The golfing landscape and the surrounding habitat are deliberately treated as one connected place.
