Overview: The Blue Course at Dar Es Salam Royal Golf Club is the more approachable companion to Rabat’s celebrated Red Course, but it remains a serious strategic test. Robert Trent Jones Sr. laid out the tree-lined parkland setting with water in play on several holes, while the later work associated with Cabell Robinson refreshed tees, greens, bunkers and playing angles. The course is par 72 and the current official presentation gives 6,205 metres, approximately 6,787 yards, from the long markers. Fast, contoured greens, shifting sightlines and the wooded setting reward a golfer who plans the next shot before taking on the current one.
History: The Blue formed part of the 45-hole Royal Golf Dar Es Salam project created at the initiative of King Hassan II and inaugurated in 1971. For many years it shared the international spotlight with the Red course, including periods as a venue for the Lalla Meryem Golf Cup and the Hassan II tournament family. A later renovation program, completed in stages and associated with Cabell Robinson, reshaped tees and greens while retaining the original Jones character. The result is a course with a long competitive history that can still be played as a daily strategic round.
Did You Know? The Blue course’s 11th hole is noted for the way its narrowed fairway approaches a lake, with Roman columns from the ancient city of Volubilis visible beside the hazard. It is an unusual combination of golf architecture and Moroccan history, and one of the details that gives this course its own identity within the Royal Dar Es Salam complex.
