Overview: Danzante Bay Golf Club is an 18-hole resort course at Villa del Palmar on the Sea of Cortez in Loreto. Rees Jones and Steve Weisser used an unusually varied site of valleys, arroyos, dunes, desert, foothills and ocean-facing land to create a multi-themed round. The operator lists par 72 and 7,237 yards. The course climbs away from the resort, returns through canyon country and reaches its dramatic coastal high points with the Sierra de la Giganta and the Islands of Loreto in view.
History: The course was completed in two stages, with the final seven holes added in December 2017. That staged completion explains why older references sometimes describe an incomplete course or use different technical totals. Rees Jones Inc. identifies the work as an original 2017 design, and the completed routing became the centrepiece of the Villa del Palmar resort and residential community. The course’s history is therefore tied to both the design process and the gradual opening of its canyon section.
Did You Know? The 17th is the course’s signature visual moment, a 178-yard par three perched high above the Sea of Cortez. It is not an isolated viewpoint reached by a road or observation deck: the hole is part of the playing route after the course has climbed through the mountains and foothills. Danzante Bay’s appeal comes from that progression, with the land changing repeatedly before the round reaches its cliffside peninsula.
