Overview: The Gold Course at Dallas Athletic Club is one of two 18-hole championship layouts on the club’s East Dallas campus. It plays to par 72 and measures 7,104 yards from the longest USGA-rated tee. The course uses a parkland palette of mature trees, eight lakes, 419 Bermuda fairways and Bentgrass greens, with the water and tree lines shaping both the visual character and the preferred lines of play. The layout is long enough to test the accomplished player, but its challenge is varied: a good drive can still leave a difficult angle if the player has chosen the wrong side of the fairway.
History: Dallas Athletic Club dates to 1919, and its present golf identity grew after the club moved to its East Dallas site. The current Gold Course is associated with Jack Nicklaus and Nicklaus Design, with the club’s history also recording Tom Pearson’s work during construction. The Gold Course is paired with the Nicklaus-designed Blue Course, whose tournament history includes the 1963 PGA Championship. That shared campus history is useful context, but the directory profile here refers specifically to the Gold routing.
Did You Know? The Gold Course’s eight lakes are not simply decorative water features: they are part of the course’s shot-making vocabulary, creating different decisions from hole to hole. The club also maintains an eight-acre short-game practice facility designed by Chet Williams. The companion Blue Course hosted the 1963 PGA Championship, giving the Dallas Athletic Club campus a direct place in major championship history.
