Overview: Dainfern is a residential-estate course in the northern Johannesburg corridor, built around the Jukskei River and the gently rolling ground of Fourways. The par-72 layout stretches to about 6,600 metres and brings the river into play on six holes. Willows, water features, rocky outcrops and mature landscaping make the course feel removed from the city even though it sits inside one of Gauteng’s busiest golf markets.
History: Johnnic Properties acquired the old Fourways Golf Course land in 1985 and developed the wider Dainfern estate during the following years. Gary Player and Phil Jacobs shaped the golf course as the estate took form, with the design milestone recorded in 1989. Dainfern was one of South Africa’s early residential golf estates and celebrated the course’s thirtieth anniversary in 2021.
Did You Know? The Jukskei is not just scenery at Dainfern. It crosses or borders enough of the routing to influence strategy on six holes, so a round can turn on whether a player chooses the aggressive river line or leaves a safer angle for the next shot.
