Overview: Dacotah Ridge Golf Club is a public Rees Jones and Steve Weisser design in the Lower Sioux Indian Community near Morton. The course is shaped by open prairie, rolling ground, native grasses and the Wabasha Creek, giving it a distinctive southwest Minnesota landscape rather than a conventional suburban parkland feel. Strategic interest comes from the interaction of wind, creek crossings, elevation changes and the broad natural corridors between holes. Jones's design uses the site’s scale to create a course that feels expansive while keeping individual holes visually legible.
History: Dacotah Ridge opened in 2000 as a new public championship course in southwest Minnesota. Rees Jones Inc. identifies Steve Weisser as co-designer and describes the project as an original prairie-land design. The nearby Lower Sioux community and Jackpot Junction resort helped establish the course as a destination within the Minnesota River Valley, while the layout's native setting became part of its architectural identity. Early recognition included a Golf Digest award for best new affordable public courses and later Audubon-related environmental certification.
Did You Know? On the short seventh hole, the tee shot must cross the Wabasha Creek twice. The double crossing is a compact example of how Dacotah Ridge uses one natural feature to shape both the visual drama and the strategic problem of a hole.
