Overview: Culver Academies Golf Course is a compact 9-hole layout between Lake Maxinkuckee and the Culver Woodcraft Camp in Culver, Indiana. The course is part of the academy landscape rather than a stand-alone resort setting, and its scale makes it possible to appreciate the routing, green sites, and surrounding woodland in a short round. The current nine holes measure about 3,420 yards and play to par 36. Its character comes from the relationship between open playing corridors, mature trees, and the water and camp landscapes around the property.
History: The course was created in the early 1920s by William Langford and Theodore Moreau. Indiana Golf records construction beginning in 1922 and play commencing in late spring 1924. A second nine was considered but was not built during the Great Depression, leaving Culver as a 9-hole course. Bobby Weed Golf Design restored the layout in the 2013-2015 period, with the goal of recovering the character of the early design while keeping the course useful to the academy community and its golf teams.
Did You Know? The restoration was guided by a practical piece of history: the original plans had contemplated another nine holes, but that expansion never happened. Culver therefore remains a rare surviving 9-hole school course whose present routing is closely tied to the ambitions and limits of the 1920s project.
