Overview: Craigielaw is a modern East Lothian links on Scotland’s Golf Coast, with views across the Firth of Forth towards Gullane Hill and Fife. The layout is built on firm, open ground rather than towering dunes, giving it a distinctive low, rumpled character. Cavernous bunkers, testing green complexes and the regular coastal wind combine to make positioning more important than a simple drive-and-wedge approach.
History: Designed by Donald Steel and his company, Craigielaw opened in 2001 as a contemporary interpretation of classic Scottish links golf. The course was developed to sit naturally in its coastal landscape, with holes shaped around the ground and the views rather than imposed on it. Its early tournament history includes the Scottish Amateur Strokeplay Championship and qualification for the British Seniors Open.
Did You Know? Craigielaw hosted the Scottish Seniors Open in both 2018 and 2019. Its scorecard’s championship tees total 6,601 yards, while the course also publishes shorter tee combinations that make the same routing accessible to a wider range of players.
