Overview: Country Club Tasmania in Prospect Vale, near Launceston, is in the middle of a major change from its established resort course to a new Championship Golf Course by Robin Gibson. The announced 18-hole par-72 layout is planned around winding waterways, mature trees, sculpted fairways and sand-capped playing surfaces. The course is best described as a developing project rather than a finished scorecard: the operator says the new layout is scheduled to reopen in summer 2026/27, and no settled current tee total or public playing rate has been published. Leaving year and yardage unreported is therefore more accurate than attaching specifications from the older course.
History: The original Country Club Tasmania golf course dates from 1982 and is associated with Peter Thomson and Michael Wolveridge. The resort is now investing about AUD 20 million in a new golf experience, with Robin Gibson responsible for the new Championship layout. The redevelopment means the older course history remains relevant context, but its designers and measurements should not be presented as if they describe the new routing. The planned course will continue to use the property's parkland setting while changing the playing surfaces, fairway shapes and strategic relationship with the waterways.
Did You Know? The new design is being built with sand-capped playing surfaces, a detail that connects the construction method to the course's future year-round presentation. The plan also retains the visual ingredients that define the resort landscape: mature trees, water and sculpted fairway corridors.
