Overview: Country Club of Rochester is a private Donald Ross course whose parkland character comes from tree-lined holes, strategic bunkers and contoured greens. The Rochester setting gives the course a classic inland feel, with the main challenge concentrated around approach placement and recovery.
History: The club was founded in 1895 and commissioned Ross for plans for a new 18-hole course in 1912. Later work by Robert Trent Jones and Arthur Hills changed parts of the property, but the Ross foundation remains central to the club's course history.
Did You Know? The club's own history records that Donald Ross spent two days at Country Club of Rochester making his plans. Those plans became the basis for the course that followed, rather than a later attribution added only for marketing.
