Overview: The Country Club of Farmington is a historic private course in Farmington, Connecticut, with a links-influenced design by Devereux Emmet. The 18-hole layout uses rolling ground, distinctive contours and greens that demand thoughtful approaches and careful reading. It remains a compact New England course whose interest comes from ground movement and green placement more than length.
History: Farmington’s club was established in 1892, after which early nine-hole layouts preceded Devereux Emmet’s 18-hole course opened in 1924. Later generations added irrigation, bridges, practice facilities and green work, but the club says the current course continues to reflect much of Emmet’s design.
Did You Know? The club describes itself as one of Connecticut’s oldest and links its identity to Emmet’s broader architectural legacy. Its history also includes an early course where golfers used hand-mown greens and cleeks, a reminder of how different the game was when the property began.
