Overview: Located near Rome, Italy, Country Club Castelgandolfo is a spectacular 18-hole private course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. Set directly within the massive, extinct crater of a prehistoric volcano, the layout features extremely wide fairways bordered by massive, ancient olive trees, expansive interconnected lakes, and large, fast, heavily contoured green complexes. The course demands powerful driving and precise target-style approach shots.
History: Opened in the 1980s, the course was built to establish a premier luxury competitive destination in the Roman countryside. Jones Sr. utilized the massive, natural bowl of the volcanic crater to craft a highly challenging, modern championship layout that hosted the Italian Open on the European Tour.
Did You Know? The massive, elegant clubhouse is a beautifully restored, historic 17th-century villa built by an incredibly affluent cardinal. It features original frescoes and serves as an incredibly majestic, historic architectural centerpiece for the entire estate.
