Overview: Corfu Golf and Country Club offers 18 holes on a par-72 parkland routing in the lush Ropa Valley on Corfu. Donald Harradine designed the layout to work with the valley's vegetation, streams and natural contours, creating a green inland setting only a short distance from the Ionian coast. The directory lists approximately 6,762 yards. Seven ponds and the Nafsika stream bring water into the strategy, while mature trees, wetland edges and open fairways provide a changing balance between generous landing areas and demanding approaches. The course is one of the clearest examples of Harradine's Mediterranean work.
History: The idea for a Corfu course emerged in the 1960s as the island's tourism industry began to grow. Construction started in the Ropa Valley in 1967, with Harradine commissioned for the course and the Greek architect Nikos Hatzimichalis designing the local-stone clubhouse. Corfu Golf Club was completed and officially opened in 1971, hosting the annual Kedros Cup. Major work to the course and irrigation system followed between 2005 and 2008, and the club marked its fiftieth anniversary in 2021 with a renewed focus on its long-established setting.
Did You Know? The club's official history links the Nafsika stream to the story of Odysseus and Nausicaa in Homer's Odyssey. Whether read as mythology or landscape lore, the reference suits a course built in a valley of streams, ponds and lush vegetation. The setting gives Corfu a strong narrative identity: the water is not only a strategic feature, but also part of the island's cultural memory.
