Overview: Coppertop at Cherokee Hills is an 18-hole public course in Valley City, Medina County, southwest of Cleveland. The current official scorecard lists par 70 and 6,210 yards, but length is only part of the test. Rolling fairways, tight tree-lined corridors and water on selected holes make accuracy the central skill, while several elevated tees provide a clear view of the line below. Mature trees frame the course and give the otherwise accessible layout a settled character that is more strategic than its modest scorecard length might suggest.
History: The course has been a Medina County fixture since 1963, when the property was established as an 18-hole public course. It operated for many years as Valley Forge Golf Club before the Haddad family acquired it in 1981 and developed the Coppertop at Cherokee Hills identity. The current ownership group describes the course as a neighborhood facility rooted in Valley City, with public golf remaining central while the clubhouse and event spaces have evolved around it. No reliable source identifies a specific architect for the exact routing, so architect remains unreported rather than borrowed from another Ohio course.
Did You Know? Coppertop takes its name from the copper-roofed clubhouse that is visible from the surrounding roads. The course also has only two par fives, at the ninth and fifteenth holes, a small scorecard detail that helps explain why the par-70 layout relies so heavily on positioning and well-defended shorter holes.
